Takers Review: Chris Brown Crashes In His Comeback Vehicle

Advertisement:

Takers is an action film that refuses to be worried with such things as character development and uses style to replace content. The plot is simple and not new. Five successful robbers take on one last big job and are being pursued by tired and used up police officers. This film is big on style. Style in the wardrobe, living, and driving areas is prominent to the point of over shadowing the movie. An original cast of robbers, Idris Elba, Paul Walker, Chris Brown, Michael Ealy, and Hayden Christensen could have been a powerhouse if they had an actual script to work with. The director, John Leussenhop, delivers a jumpy but visually stunning movie that falls flat. Chris Brown could have picked an much better comeback vehicle and this movie crashes quite fatally with his unimpressive acting performance. Takers delivers action is spades as this film is one big bang fest from start to finish. Action fans will obviously be impressed but those of us who like to get to know our characters will be left wondering why we wasted our money to see this film. Takers is a movie for action fans who don’t care about the plot or substance of a movie.

Aside from Elba, Dillon, and Ealy, the performances were just awful. Christensen, while good in Life as a House, has not turned in a worty performance for sometime and he doesn’t try to start that here. Paul Walker seems to be stuck playing the pretty, bad boy type lately. I’m not saying he is a bad actor but he needs to step it up if he doesn’t want to be typecast. Zoe Saldana is a good actress however she isn’t in the film long enough to establish herself. T.I. was annoying and forgettable. Finally, to all of you who think Chris Brown is the greatest thing since Viagra, allow me to fill you in on the fact that his acting was terrible. This mean I think that his acting was bad, I’m not talking about the whole Rhihanna situation or whatever so quit trying to link everything to that. I’m not saying he is incapable of good acting, I’m saying his acting in this movie was just terrible. Plain and simple. How anybody could not see this is beyond me. Also just because a movie makes it number one at the box office does not mean it is a good movie by any means. It can simply mean that it was marketed well and brought in a decent fan base before its release. I’ll admit, I was looking forward to seeing it when I first heard about it but never got around to it. I wanted to like the movie. I didn’t expect it to be Oscar worthy or anything, but I thought it could be a decent heist/action movie. Wrong. The main robbery was a rip-off of The Italian Job. They did at least have the courtesy of mentioning that in the film, I’ll give them that. But in doing this heist it looked just like it did in the other movie. Actually, it was less impressive than before. There it is. I realize I’m late to this party but I had to speak my mind. It doesn’t mean I am right. I do think I’m right, but my opinion isn’t gospel. These responses should be able to continue debate and discussion, not take shots at the person who started the entire process. Hopefully a portion of you will grow up and begin to have adult-like conversations and debates.

I have a friend who wasn’t going to go see “Takers” because of a review she’d read about the movie.I told her “you have to go and see for yourself because many reviewers have AGENDAS and you have definitely proven me correct.

I saw the movie twice and I will be going again Saturday.Chris was wonderful in the movie.I wonder if Mel Gibson or Charlie Sheen would receive the same reviews”somehow I doubt it”….

You, reviewer are what keeps this world in such a state of hate. Chris Brown is loved by the masses and it’s people like you (you people) who perpetuate the ill feelings. I suppose you all have the “hots” for Riri….get over it…because she is definitely being used at this time.
Go Breezy. Believe in yourself, because we the fans certainly do.

  4. Ashton says:

Dear Reviewer…You’re missing the point and frankly you’re about a week too late, the movie is already #1 in America. Get over yourself and move on with life both Chris Brown and Rihanna have. His fans love and support him and that will not change no matter how much media outlets bash and try to downplay his accomplishments, that just makes them support him that much more. God Bless you Chris and like the first commentor said…keep believing in God and in yourself noone else matters.

I see you have resulted in putting Chris down once again. Have it occured to you that the American teenagers miss this wonderful, talented, energetic, creative young Man. You should have been in the theater with me. They gave Chris a standing Ovation. I wish I could have tape it. I pray you re-write a better piece on Chris and give him a chance to let the world know that he is truly an inspiration for all the young people that haven’t made smart decision in their lives. That second chances are possible with putting in the work to be better people. like the way Chris has. It’s a shame so many of our young Stars never seem to recover like Ms.Lohan and Paris Hilton. I want to personally thank Chris Brown for absolute wonderful movie. keep your head up Chris.

I would of paid double to see Takers just to see how well Chris Brown played his role. Takers is #1 for a reason. What are you??? Number zero. Get a life and stop your cowardly internet bullying! :) Grow up, you have real issues and it has nothing to do with CB. Get therapy and stop your evil negative attitude. :)

  7. TEAMBREEZY says:

blahblahblah… stop hatin on the movie… its No.1 get ova yourself… and wtf r u talking about Chrs’ acting skills when thats all hes being praised 4 atm… obviously your still stuck on last years incident since you can’t give credit when credit is due… and your review of the movie hardly matters when its quiet apparent that u can’t even spell… its Hayden Christensen not (Christiansen) IDIOTS… TEAMBREEZY ALL DAY EVERYDAY!!!

Thank you for pointing out our one spelling error. We would like to point out that by calling us names we should wonder what you are since you cannot spell “hating”- you forgot the “g”, over is spelled with an “er” and not with an “a”, and your use of “thats” is grammatically incorrect as it should be “that’s”, “hes” should be “he’s”……so now what does that make your opinion worth?

The opening weekend numbers shows that it does not matter what critics says…because of this comment this movie will probably be on top for the next month or so. i would just leave it alone..i have never seen so many movies that were considered flakes…like matrix..avatar..to name a few… people don’t neccessarily believe will rise to the top. chris brown keep on believing in God and yourself because their are alot of people who believe you. God bless…

whoever wrote this…find something else to do… you can’t steal these guys thunder…
