Doctor Oz is all about anti aging and beauty tips and actress Goldie Hawn will be giving out her secrets for looking younger and staying beautiful. Oz opens the show talking about how Hawn has started her foundation to help people live the life they want to live. They start out talking about her past and how success didn’t make her happy but actually depressed. She says she “lost her smile and couldn’t find true joy.” She says that she has no “secret” to happiness but how to find the mindset that keeps you more joyful is something that she has researched extensively. By cutting the negative and accentuate the positive we can get our body to respond. Oz start out by giving Goldie a real brain to look at and she goes into detail about the different parts and how they work and Oz is amazed. She is doing all the talking and Oz can’t get a word in. They discuss the triggers and what causes us to react the way we do. Negativity can be overcome by showing gratitude about the positive stuff in our life and focusing in the positive things in our life has shown to actually cure people of depression.
Oz asks how she stays so beautiful at 63 and how her new book “10 Mindful Minutes” helps both parents and children to use their minds to live a better life. Goldie gives her rules to staying young and being happy. First, take a mind break and give your brain a rest. Oz says taking a break will help keep the brain focused and actually shows how the brain can get overloaded and cause stress. He also shows how meditation causes the brain to build up in areas that affect our moods. Rule 2 is to focus and we see Goldie’s jelly bean test. Close your eyes and take a jelly bean and focus on it by feeling the texture. Then put it in your mouth but don’t chew it but just feel it with your tongue. Finally, chew it up and swallow. Now take how you focused on the jellybean, by enjoying the experience, and do that with other parts of your life. Rule 3 is kindness. Goldie says doing acts of kindness for others will make you a happier person. We can be happier because our brain reacts to other people’s feelings and if we make other people happy, then we will be a more happy person.
The next segment is how to younger in 30 minutes with Dr. Yan Trokel and he is talking about the “Y” lift. This procedure puts the volume back in our faces and makes us look younger. The procedure injects to form new collagen and pumps up the face. Now the lady, Amy, looks a lot better but it seemed she couldn’t smile and her face looked a little fake to me. We get a live demonstration and the results are instant. The face looks tighter and younger.
The third segment is Dr. Mike Dow and he is focusing on cravings and how they effect us and can be keeping us fat. He starts off by saying these sweet snacks enter and leave the stomach so fast that they cause us to have cravings and want more. He has a list of booster foods and you can get them on the Dr. Oz site and the link is at the bottom of this post. He has a 28 day plan to get on track and week one is to get rid of the salt and swap it out with spices like basil and pepper. Week two you need to pair up you bad foods with the new booster foods to train yourself to eat the booster foods. Week 3 you swap out 3 of the bad foods totally with booster foods. Week 4 is the big change and you need to replace all your regular meals with booster foods and he says it is ok to still cheat a little with the bad foods. The key to this plan is to train your body to crave the booster foods. Mike shows us how to make healthy pizza. Start with onions, fresh artichoke, use a whole wheat tortilla for the crust, diced tomatoes instead of sauce, use low fat goat cheese, and season to taste with the booster spices. This will boost your body and is very healthy.
