“Shark Tank” Preview (1/20/12): There’s Fresh Blood in the Water…and the Sharks Are Circling!
January 20, 2012
ABC’s “Shark Tank” returns tonight at 8/7c with fresh blood in the entrepreneur water and the sharks are circling! Who returns to “Shark Tank” on this season 3 premiere? There is a surprise shark in the tank; who is it? It looks like all the regular sharks will be sitting in the tank as they “prey” are introduced, pitching their ideas for investment money in the hopes of turning their dreams and hard work into an empire.
Mark Cuban, the sexy shark who was voted GQ’s “Man of the Year” in 2006, is one of the most level-headed and frank of the bunch. The proud owner of the Dallas Maverick’s, his first taste of business came at the age of 12 when he sold garbage bags door-to-door according to the biographical sketches at ABC. Another returning veteran is the only woman on the panel, Barbara Corcoran, who tunred a $1,000 loan into a $5 billion real estate corporation; even though she does not do many deals, the ones she does invest are are sure things. The loudmouth of the group, Kevin O’Leary, made billions when he sold his software company to Mattel in 1999 and he makes sure almost all fledgling entrepreneurs (aa well as the other panel members) are fully aware of it. Although his ruthless nature made him a name in the educational software world, sometimes it loses him deals to other sharks in the tank. Daymond John, perhaps the least profitable of the group, created FUBU (For Us, By Us) name brand of urban wear which started a new fashion trend, earning him the nickname of the “Godfather of Urban Fashion.” The last member of the five taking seats tonight is Robert Herjavec, who heads the Herjavec Group which is a leading IT security firm. He is kind of the “Head Shark” in the tank even though Kevin O’Leary would like to think he is in charge!
Who will survive and who will be eaten alive depends on the product pitch and overall concept. Tune in to find out or return later to read the recap of the feeding frenzy!
