The Sonisphere Festival has confirmed today that Kiss, as well as Queen, featuring Adam Lambert as lead singer, and Faith No More will headline the festival in Knebworth, UK this summer on July 6-8. The announcement has been a long time coming, as rumors have been circulating about this for months. The official announcement was made on the Sonisphere UK website as well as on the radio.
The Sonisphere Festival has been deemed “the world’s largest touring hard rock festival” and includes concerts in Poland, Spain, Switzerland, Finland, France, and the UK. Metallica, Soundgarden, and Evanescence are some of the other artists confirmed for the various Sonisphere concerts this year.
The festival returns to Knebworth Park, which is internationally known as Britain’s largest music venue, and the British home of classic rock. It is here that Queen played their last gig with Freddie Mercury in August 1986. Although Adam Lambert will be fronting the band this time around, he has said that he will not try to mimic Freddie. In fact, he said in a recent interview:
“I think it would be disrespectful to Freddie Mercury to try to copy him. I don’t think that’s the idea of any sort of tribute. I think the idea is to bring the songs to life with an energy that maybe he would be approving of.”
Tickets to the festival will be onsale on Thursday on the Sonisphere Festival website and are sure to go fast. Will you be going to see Queen and Adam Lambert perform?
