IT has arrived! Tonight is the first “Dancing with the Stars” elimination of season 14. This is how everything went down on the DWTS results show this evening as the field of twelve teams seeking the coveted Mirrorball trophy was cut to eleven! So was you DWTS team axed or was the team you choose in our elimination poll the one hitting the proverbial bricks? Find out as we deliver you the results…
The show starts out with the “Dancing with the Stars” troupe of dancers performing a jive dance party number called “I Just Want You to Dance with Me Tonight” by Olly Murs. This was a tradition started last year as a spin-off of the results show introduction number of “So You Think You Can Dance.” One question: Why does it almost always seem as through there is something off in the dance steps and choreography of these professionals when they get together?
Tom Bergeron and Brooke Burke-Charvet announce the first wave of contestants which are the three women who scored the lowest last night. They are Martina Navratilova and partner Tony Dovoloni who threw us for a loop with that clown-looking outfit and horrendous make-up, Melissa Gilbert and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy who just couldn’t seem to get any crispness in their dance steps, and Gladys Knight and Tristan MacManus who just lost steam. Two teams are safe and one is in jeopardy. Who are they? It is revealed that Gladys Knight and Melissa Gilbert will live to dance another week, but Martina may be hanging up those dancing shoes tonight!
Sugarland and Matt Nathanson sing his song “Run” accompanied by the “Dancing with the Stars” pros Tristan MacManus and Peta Murgatroyd. It was lovely but brought up the next set of contestants facing elimination which were the highest scoring men. These were William Levy and partner Cheryl Burke, Jaleel White and partner Kym Johnson, and Roshon Fegan and partner Chelsie Hightower. Tom Bergeron announced that Jaleel and Kym were safe but the roof was raised with boos when it was revealed that Roshon and Chelsie were in jeopardy. Nothing like starting out the season with fireworks! William and Cheryl are safe to show us the some spicy salsa next week!
Time was taken to present the two new dancing kids on the block, Emma and Henry, who join the “Dancing with the Stars” troupe to take the place of Tristan and Peta who were promoted to pro status. They performed really nice choreography to “Domino” by Jessie J. Katie Couric was seen as the cameras panned the crowd.
The next set of contestants who await word as to whether or not they are safe are the highest scoring ladies which include Sherri Shepherd and partner Val Chmerkovskiy, Katherine Jenkins and partner Mark Ballas who currently rule the leader board, and Maria Menounos and partner Derek Hough who are on the injured reserve list but will be facing the rumba next week. Tom Bergeron announces all three couples will be returning…no surprise there!
Sugarland performs once more a song from their album The Incredible Machine which is “Find the Beat Again” as some of the “Dancing with the Stars” troupe dancers make another appearance. What is up with the constant gymnastics? The final trio of contestants in the wings are the lowest scoring men who are Jack Wagner and partner Anna Trebunskaya, William Driver (who received an apology from Len Goodman last night for giving him such a low score last week) and partner Peta Murgatroyd, and Gavin DeGraw and Karina Smirnoff. Gavin DeGraw is the one in jeopardy but it was expected.
Roshon and Chelsie are safe and I am wondering if this wasn’t just to add a sense of excitement, leaving Martina and Gavin facing elimination. Gavin DeGraw and Karina Smirnoff will be returning next week as Martina Navratilova and Tony Dovoloni are eliminated! I guess it was a double fault after all! The dance styles next week? Salsa and rumba…don’t miss it!
