Healthy Meal Makeovers On Dr. Oz Today 5/18/2012

Dr. Oz opens the show saying he is going on the road to help families eat smarter and make better food choices. The first stop is Atlanta and Oz is going to tackle BBQ. Chef Richard Blais meets him and they see two sisters that really love their BBQ, potato salad, and macaroni and cheese. He brings them to the studio to show them healthy alternatives. Blais tells them to substitute chicken breast for the pork ribs. He makes cole slaw with mustard and vinegar and a yogurt based Tziziki Sauce. This is only a 300 calorie meal vs over calories for the pork.

Next, we go to New York to a school where the teachers have to order out for lunch. Donatella Arpaia joins Oz to make this healthy. They show up with lunch and tell the teachers they are going to get them healthy. Donatella tells them she will show them a chicken parm sub that is healthy. Start with chicken breast and marinade with salt, pepper, lemon, and olive oil. Grill the chicken and roast some garlic. Make stewed cherry tomatoes in a skillet and add the garlic. Place on low cal bread and make great 400 calorie sandwiches that won’t blow your diet.

Oz head to Philadelphia to see how tacos stack up on the health meter. Chef Jose Garces disguises Oz and he ambushes people ordering from the taco truck. They make healthy tacos. Beef tacos are made healthy by ordering skirt steak tacos. Just strip it up with cilantro, parsley, garlic, salt, and olive oil for a marinade. Add salsa roja, black beans, stripped skirt steak and a slice of avocado to a soft corn tortilla. These tacos are only 546 calories for a serving of two.

Now we head to Washington, DC with chef Mike Isabella to make healthy Italian food. They walk in on a family having spaghetti with meatballs. These are huge meatballs. The head to the stage to make shrimp scampi. Mike says he makes this with no butter. Saute you shrimp on olive oil. Next, add olive oil, white wine, lemon juice, minced garlic, cherry tomatoes, salt, pepper, and add your whole wheat pasta. Add the shrimp along with some parsley and you have a great shrimp scampi. This is only 460 calories per serving.

Now Oz give us some great new metabolism boosters. First, measure how much activity you get with a device called “The Groove” that will measure how much exercise you get each day. this will nudge you into working more. Next, Oz says to make vegetarian chili loaded with metabolism boosters. Oz says to spice it up with a lot of pepper to boost your metabolism. Finally, Oz says the best way to lose weight is EGCG and it is found in green tea. He says you can get it ina supplement and you need 500mg a day. Oz says this will melt away the fat and help you stay on your diet by keeping you full.

The next segment is about fighting aging and Oz has three suggestions for us. First, Alpha Lipoic Acid is a great way to regulate blood sugar and you need 300 mg a day. Next, to fight cholesterol you need Plant Sterols that block cholesterol from getting into your body. It keeps blood clots from forming and you need one 3g tablet a day. Finally, you need to take magnesium to keep your blood pressure low and should take 400mg a day. Hibiscus Tea is a great way to get plenty of antioxidants that will help keep you looking young and healthy.

Now we get the most effective ways to fight wrinkles and look younger. Dr. Jeannette Graf is on the show and she suggests we need to use anti oxidants to your creams. She says Glytone anti Aging cream is her most recommended. Next, she says we need retinol and suggests Avene Triacinal cream. Finally, she says you need to exfoliate your skin with Skin PHD Alpha Cream to get rid of those dead skin cells and keep a youthful glow.
