Yesterday, according to sources at TV Guide and FOX News, Steven Tyler decided to walk his own way for the sake of Aerosmith which might have laid the “It’s US or THEM” card on the table regarding his activities as judge for the prestigious singing talent show. Hollie McKay from FOX News cited Glen Selig, a PR specialist, as saying “The situation smacks of the band forcing him to make a choice between ‘Idol’ or Aerosmith [and] he chose Aerosmith.” However, was it really THAT simple? Although it is known that the band, especially Joe Perry, was never really endorsing of the “American Idol” stint in the first place, not wanting the band’s name associated with the gig, there might be more behind the reason to leave than simply peer pressure. There are rumors Tyler did not want to be the only credible face remaining. Could it be the star announced his decision to leave on the heels of hints Jennifer Lopez was about to drop her own bomb?
In an article by Kate Stanhope for TV Guide, JLo had been quoted as saying “Maybe it’s time for me to go” while she was promoting her newest film, Ice Age: Continental Drift, (which debuts today in theaters) while giving an interview yesterday to Natalie Morales on Today. Stanhope cites Tyler as saying “The next few years are going to be dedicated to kicking some serious a** – the ultimate in auditory takeover…on November 6, we [Aerosmith] are unleashing our new album, Music from Another Dimension on the Earth, Moon, Mars, and way beyond the stars. ‘Idol’ was over-the-top fun and I loved every minute of it.” It is a lot to ponder, isn’t it?
