Dr. Oz opens by giving us a bit of history on Dr. John LaPuma and how nutrition and food can be some of your best medicine. He said that medical school does not teach anything about nutrition. He asks and 50% of the audience is taking a prescription medication. LaPuma says 80% of cancer and 70% of heart disease is preventable through proper nutrition. He has his BITES plan and it is Berry, Indian Spices, Teas, Eggs and Salmon. You need to eat each of these once a week. Now we get Lapuma’s list of super foods.
The first superfoods are for fighting cancer. Bulgur Wheat is the first super food that has big cancer fighting ability. LaPuma says it is a great source of magnesium and fiber. He says we need a cup of this a day and says women can lower by 30% their chances of getting breast cancer if they get 30 grams of fiber a day. Next, Limes are a great superfood and you need to take three and blend them up. Add to 2 quarts of water and drink all day. Third, Concord grapes have a lot of Resveratrol and we need to eat 2 cups a week. The darker the grape, the better. Lapuma says to freeze your grapes and you can eat them as popcicles. The fourth food is Arugula and it is packed with cancer fighting enzymes that are released as you chew it.
Now we get super foods to boost immunity. Tahini is sesame seed paste that is rich in zinc and magnesium and will boost your immunity. You need two tablespoons a day. Next, black pepper has pipperine and it can help you absorb the good stuff in other spices. Leaf oregano releases aromatic oils that kills stuff like staff and other bacteria. It must be leaf oregano. You need as much of these as you can use each day. Finally, pumpkins are a great source of beta carotene and you need about 1 cup of it a day.
Now we get a recipe and it is Honey Chinese Chicken. Marinating your meat lowers the risk of getting carcinogens when grilling meat. The ingredients are: 3 tbsp oyster sauce, 2 tsp peeled ginger, minced, 1 tsp chili garlic sauce, 4 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves, 1 tbsp dark honey, 1 tbsp reduced sodium soy sauce. Now here are the steps to make it: Prepare a charcoal or gas grill or preheat your oven’s broiler. Combine the oyster sauce, ginger, and chili garlic sauce; mix well. Transfer 1 tablespoon of the mixture to a small bowl, set aside. Spread the remaining mixture over both sides of the chicken; let stand 5 to 10 minutes. Grill or broil the chicken for 4 to 5 minutes per side or until the chicken is cooked through.Add honey and soy sauce to the reserved oyster sauce mixture. Serve as a dipping sauce for the chicken.
Now we get fast fixes for your health problems. The first problem is dandruff and how to get rid of it. Oz says dandruff comes when our scalp sheds too much skin. Oz says use apple cider vinegar and you use 1/4 cup in 1/4 cup of water and spray it on your hair. Let it sit 15 minutes and then shampoo it out. We need to do this twice a week. Next, how do you get rid of “eye buggers.” Oz says these come when we stop blinking as we sleep and material builds up in the corner of our eye. Oz says saline eye drops before bed will reduce or eliminate them.
Now Oz takes on thunder thighs and chafing in between your thighs. Oz says he has the perfect solution and we probably have it in our house already. He says we need to use anti perspirant between our legs to prevent sweating and lubricate out thighs. Now Oz talks about ways to fight plague and Dr. Jonathon Levene is on the show. Plague can decay the teeth and give you problems in other parts of the body.
Oz says gum disease is connected to heart disease but it is the inflammation that is the key. Inflammation in the mouth could tell you that you have inflammation in the heart. Plague and red gums are a form of bacteria invasion. Tartar is when we get a build up of plaque that hardens. Oz says we need a power brush like the Oral B Power Brush to get rid of all the plaque we can. You should brush for 2 minutes at a time for three times a day.
The show ends with some pumpkin carvings from fans and these are amazing. A pair of fans actually have Oz’s image on a pumpkin and they come out on the show.
