Dr. Oz says there are 5 Epic Diet Disasters that everyone are making that is causing them to lose weight and Dr. Joel Fuhrman is on the show to talk about this new discovery. First, Joel says not to diet because you cut back on things and that creates a cycle where we deprive ourselves of things we need. Calorie cutting diets, Gluten free diets, high protein diets, fat free diets, and small meal diets all have inherent problems that doom us to failure. Fuhrman says all of these deprive us of micro nutrients that we need to keep our body working properly.
Fuhrman goes into a little more detail as Oz asks him to explain. He says that these fad diets may work for a while but cutting calories is something you cannot keep up over a long term. This means you will gain weight back when you stop the diet. Gluten Free diets can cause you to lose weight because you tend to eat more rice and potato flour. Joel says these actually cause you to gain weight and only 10% of the population is allergic to gluten.
High Protein Diets cause a toxic build up of acid in your tissues and can cause many health problems. They also load the body up with Insulin Growth Hormone or IG1 which has been linked to breast cancer. Low Fat Diets are bad because the body needs fat to process all the nutrients we eat. Joel says we need to eat fat to lose the fat. Counting calories is self explanatory. When you cut out calories, your body craves things more. Eating small meals can cause you to gain weight because we tend to overeat as we increase our meals.
Food Addiction is very serious as Fuhrman talks about how this is similar to other addictions. Things to look for are Growling Stomach, Headaches, Irritability, Lightheadedness, and Stomach Cramps. Fuhrman says these are not normal hunger symptoms and are a sign of withdrawal. To beat food addiction, you need to eat more of the right foods and less of the bad ones.
The number one diet disaster is Toxic Hunger. When you are addicted to food, you get withdrawal symptoms. Toxic hunger is when we eat more because we are addicted to the wrong foods. People who are suffering from Toxic Hunger Withdrawal have headaches, nausea, bloating, and pain. They can’t stand the pain so they eat. Joel says the key to breaking this cycle is to eat more of the right foods.
In order to recognize Toxic Hunger Symptoms, you need to know what True Hunger Symptoms are supposed to be. So what is true hunger? True hunger starts in the neck and throat. It is not painful or discomforting. Your taste buds will get enhanced when you are experiencing true hunger. This is why so many people get addicted to food. If you eat a gummy bear, you want more of that first taste but they are a toxic food so you never get it. By eating the right foods, you will have that sensation in every bite.
When you are experiencing True Hunger, you body will produce saliva when you smell or see food. This means your body is getting everything ready to process food and you metabolism actually picks up. Fuhrman says that when you start eating the right foods when you are truly hungry, you won’t feel anything after you eat. You need to learn that eating is just a process of providing nutrients to the body. Once you do that, all those pains and cravings will go away and you will have less fatigue.
