Dr. Oz, March 20, 2013, talks about how parasitic infections mimic some common ailments and Lisa Oz joins the show to give out all of the Oz Approved Home Remedies like Oregano Oil. Oz opens by saying that the last time you had fever, headache, and coughing could have been a parasitic infection instead of the flu or a cold. Dr. Florian Reyda is on the show and says that parasites are becoming more prevalent all over the world. Oz says that doctors may need to start looking at this instead of just assuming a person just has the flu.
Dr. Margaret Williamson says doctors are missing the subtle signs that tell us parasites have invaded our body. She says that is your children play around areas where pets have been “pooping” then you need to be on the lookout for the following symptoms: Abdominal pain, Headache, Coughing bouts, Shortness of breath, Wheezing, and chest pain. Yes they sound like the flu but if they don’t go away in a normal amount of time you need to tell your doctor to test you for parasites.
Dr. Reyda says that if you suddenly come down with Fever, Chills, Sweats, Headache, Body aches, Nausea, and Fatigue, then you may have Babesiosis Infection. This comes from a tick bite and it can take up to 2 months for these symptoms to show up after the bite. Ticks transmit the Babesia Parasite when they bite you and Reyda says it is sometimes hard to see the ticks because they are tiny. If you think you or your child has this parasite, there is a simple test that can be done by your doctor to check for it.
We have all gotten itchy in the summer from what we call Swimmer’s Itch. Dr. Williamson says this can be from Bird Schistosomes and about 60 million people a year are infected with them. These are usually infecting birds but they can attache themselves to humans. Symptoms include a rash over the body, tingling or itchy skin, and pimples. Again, if you have these and they seem to not go away after a while, you can get tested for this parasite.
Oz brings out a guest that thought she was suffering from a bad case of the flu. She had fever and chills and other flu like symptoms but was shocked when she started coughing and live Roundworms were coming out of her mouth. A trip to the doctor showed that she was infected with Roundworms. Williamson says the most common signs of a Roundworm infection are: Diarrhea, abdominal bloating, wheezing, and coughing. To check for a roundworm infection, you will need a stool sample to see if the eggs are there.
With all of these infections happening, what can we do to protect ourselves from parasites? Oz has some simple answers for us. First, we need to eat more whole grains and other high fiber foods. This makes it difficult for the parasites to attach themselves to our intestinal walls. Next, we can take a probiotic called S. Boulardii and he recommends we take 250mg twice a day. S. Boulardii has a high concentration of yeast and parasites don’t like it. Third, Oz says to eat two cloves of garlic a day to kill parasites they may already be inside us and to prevent new infections. Finally, Oz says we need to drink one cup of Wormwood Tea a day. This tea kills parasites inside the stomach before they can get a foothold inside your intestines.
Now Lisa Oz joins her husband on stage to talk about their favorite home remedies that keep our favorite doctor going. She uses foot reflexology to help manage her husband’s stress levels. By focusing the sensitive areas of the foot, she can see where Oz is having trouble in his body. The basics are that the toes connect to the brain, ears, eyes, and sinuses; the balls of the feet relate to the heart, liver, and lungs; the arch of the foot relates to the small intestine and bladder; the heel relates to the pelvis. You can target organs and specific areas by rubbing the correct part of the foot.
We all have been constipated at one time or another and Oz has warned us about using laxatives. Lisa says she has her family use Magnesium Citrate Powder to naturally get the poop out of her husband. She says to take a 500mg tablet or one teaspoon of the powder mixed with orange juice. If one member of the Oz family has a little accident that may cause pain and bruising, Lisa says she uses comfrey tincture compresses to help with bruising and get rid of the pain. Just soak a cheesecloth with the tincture and apply it to the effected area.
Another way Lisa lowers Doctor Oz’s stress is to use Essence of Hornbeam. Just put a few drops under your tongue right before you go into a stressful situation and it will help keep you calm and cool. We all love a good face scrub but worry about chemicals and the drying effects of soap. Lisa says to use a Sea Salt Face Scrub to help your sensitive skin look and feel better. Just mix 1/2 cup Sea Salt, 1/2 cup coconut oil, and 2 drops of lavender oil and then apply to your face. This is a great way to get rid of makeup and clear your skin.
Lisa ends the segment with her and Oz’s super cure and it is Oregano Oil. Oz says this oil has anti bacterial, anti parasite, and anti microbial properties that make it a perfect all around prevention tool. You need to look for at least 50 percent carvacrol on the oil and if you get it in capsule form you need to use enteric coated ones. Oz admits he rubs this oil inside his mouth to kill bacteria and help keep his breath and gums healthy. You can even add it to your toothpaste or mouthwash so you won’t forget it. Lisa says she uses the oil to rub on her kids feet and their chest when they are feeling a little sick. She says this works wonders for any mom. Oz says that you can also mix a couple drops of Oregano Oil with Sesame oil and it is a great way to clear up your acne. Just dab the mixture on your face with a cotton ball but be sure to use only a couple of drops because the Oregano Oil will irritate your skin if it is too strong.
