Derek Hough brings 5 families on the stage tonight in a new dance competition show with a $10,000 dollar prize. One of the most inspiring stories here tonight was the Hunter family. This mom and her three children dance all the time at home. Mom has a dance background and it has been passed through to all her kids. Her oldest son, Shaheem (I hope it is spelled correctly), started losing his hearing at an early age. He is totally deaf now but he still dances by feeling the music through the floor or the speakers.
Shaheem had to learn sign language and now he has a 4.0 GPA in school and volunteers to help other deaf children enjoy dancing. Mom tried hard to keep up here and it was nice to see how this family loves to dance. They were not the most polished family in the competition, but they were the most inspiring.
Hannah Hamermesh is an aspiring choreographer and she coaxed her two older brothers into joining this competition. Both brothers are in a band so changing from playing the music to moving to it was a challenge. The trio did a few tricky moves and shined brightly.
The Barmetler, Hunter, Hamermesh, London, and Clark families are all waiting for the results as the studio audience votes for the winner.
The top three families are the Hunter, London, and Clark families. Third place goes to the Clark family. The Hunter family is second. The winner of the $10,000 dollar prize is the London Family!
So what do you think about Family Dance Off? Will this show be a new hit or will it be a dud? Personally, I thought the show was a little rushed with just one hour but I like the format of having the audience pick a winner. This instant announcement of a winner may hurt the show in building a following, but it does make for great TV that doesn’t leave you hanging.
