Riddick will not disappoint any of the die hard fans of the first two installments as this film is pure unadulterated mayhem that only one being can deliver. When we last saw our anti-hero, he had just taken over the rule of the Necromongers. Once again, there is no rest for him as he is exiled to a harshly familiar planet where two groups of mercenaries are hunting him to claim the bounty on his head. Chaos is the name of the game here and no one plays it better than Riddick.
The graphics in this film are some of the best you will ever see. David Twohy returns as writer and director here and his genius is evident in every scene. Vin Diesel is this character like Robert Downey Jr. is Iron Man. Diesel proves that age has not deterred his ability to deliver a menacing glare that will send shivers down your spine. While Pitch Black was raw and in your face, The Chronicles of Riddick seemed to be a little too light hearted for my taste. This film puts Riddick back in his element, fighting for his life, delivering some terrible cliche lines for a laugh, and basically being the baddest man in the universe.
If you like blood and gore then you will love this film. If you like rude dialog interlaced with some of the worst stereotypical quotes in the world, then you will love this film. Those that have seen both of the previous installments will see lots of tributes to each. Twohy does not overdo the recaps to the point of being boring. He gives you just enough info to keep those that are not familiar with the character interested with nuances that are too few and far apart in Hollywood these days.
Riddick is pure action. I highly recommend this film to any fan of the original and also for any action junkie that has been living under a rock for the past 14 years or so. This has to be one of the best films of the Summer.
