Doctor Oz, 9/20/2013, turns the show over to his viewers and lets them pick the topics they most want to know more about. “All health is breaking loose” on the show today and more than 13 Million fans voted for their topics and Oz even ends up getting his back waxed! Oz enters the stage on a white horse and is wearing scrubs with a glittery “OZ” on them. He says the number one topic the fans chose is Metabolism. Oz says revving up your metabolism is specific to your body type and the two main groups are big in the middle and big on the bottom.
If you are big in the middle, you need to have half your calories from lean protein and half from veggies with one serving of carbs a day. Protein plus Cinnamon are the key to losing the fat in your belly. Cinnamon actually helps regulate your blood sugar levels and actually makes drinks like coffee and tea taste great. Oz says carbs are off limits to you. Oz gave us a sample meal for the day and you start with cottage cheese and blueberries sprinkled with cinnamon, your lunch will be a turkey burger on a bed of lettuce and apple slices sprinkled with cinnamon and a bit of peanut butter for dipping, your dinner will be whole grain pasta, salmon, and a glass of iced tea sweetened with cinnamon. Simple little nudges in your diet make a huge difference in your belly fat.
Big bottomed women need High Complex carbs and Oregano. Women, who are big bottomed have an issue with estrogen in their body. Oz says 3/4 of your calories need to be complex carbs and add Oregano. Complex carbs are those that are not high in fat so forget about eating white bread, rice, and regular pasta and go for the whole grains. Your body takes the fat you eat and oregano has vito estrogens and these help nudge your hormones to release the fat in your bottom and not store it there. We get a sample meal suggestion for a day. Start your day with a whole grain bagel topped with soy cream cheese, veggies, and oregano. For lunch, more whole grain pasta with veggies and oregano and please use very little oil. Your dinner will be brown rice with baked or grilled chicken and veggies all topped with oregano. Remember, eating fat is bad if you are trying to get rid of the fat on your bottom. Viewers voted for Oz to eat crickets on the stage and he gulps down a handful. Who says Oz doesn’t listen to his fans.
The next topic is poop and pancreatic cancer. Oz has three categories for poop: 1. Small round nuggets mean you are straining too hard and have constipation; 2. Runny and watery poop means you are digesting your food too fast and may not be absorbing the nutrients your body needs; 3. “S” shaped solid poop means you are just fine. Oz says we should be pooping once a day and he recommends we get 30 grams of fiber daily to keep things moving along. You can eat more beets, asparagus, vegetable juice, prunes, peaches, and beans to get more fiber.
Oz says our poop should be brown but he adds that it can turn green if we eat leafy veggies with food coloring in them. Constant green poop can be a sign of Crohn’s Disease. Yellow poop could be a sign of gallbladder disease or that you cannot digest wheat properly. White poop means you are not digesting the fat in your diet and can be a sign of pancreatic cancer. Red poop means you have hemorrhoids or you could be bleeding. Black poop could mean you are bleeding in your stomach as blood turns darker as is goes through the colon. Oz says that temporary changes in poop color are normal but if the condition persists than you may need to see your doctor. Last, skid mark in the toilet after you flush are a sign that you are not getting enough fiber.
The next topic is about stress. Oz says that some stress is good for you and some of it is bad. We get a few questions to show us the difference. If you stress about getting a shot from the doctor because you are afraid of needles, then this is good because short stress bursts help strengthen your immune system. If you stay awake stressing over a big event like a wedding, then this is bad for you. If you are stressing over going to the dentist, then this is good as it is your brain’s way of getting you prepared for a tough situation. If you are camping and get chased by a hungry bear, this is good stress because it is just your body’s “fight or flight” response.
The next topic is about Energy Boosters. Oz says viewers are always asking him how to get more energy. some of us need help starting out the day and some of us run out of gas in the middle of the afternoon. Oz says the best booster snack is peanut butter and chia seeds. The peanut butter is loaded with protein and the seeds are full of Omega 3 Fatty Acids that will give you a boost and keep your sugar levels from spiking. Oz says Kiwi fruit is the perfect morning snack to boost energy because if is loaded with vitamin C and potassium. He also gives us the latest Energy Booster and it is Goji Berry Juice. He says Goji berries are OK if you cannot find the juice but these are a cheap way to give your body a boost.
Now Oz brings out all his fans on stage to dance to the “Cupid Shuffle.” He says we all need to exercise and making it fun will ensure that your keep doing it. Finally, viewers asked for Oz to wax his back and it looks really painful.
