MasterChef Junior had the two remaining contestants fight it out on stage by cooking a full three course meal and it was really amazing watching these two “Junior” chefs handle the pressure. Alexander and Dara both prepared meals that would dazzle anyone eating at one of the finer restaurants around the country.
For appetizers, we saw two great presentations. Alexander made a Basil Lemon Shrimp with Heirloom Tomato Crostini that Gordon Ramsay was drooling over. He said this showed an eye for ingredients that many Chefs never attain. Dora made an Ahi Tuna Duo, made of Poke and Seared Tuna, that showed off her technical skills but didn’t quite deliver on the flavor. Alexander clearly won this round.
The Main Entree’s were both dazzling. Alexander created a near perfect Pan Seared Veal Chop with Gnocchi and Butter Sauce. Dora had equally enticing Spot Prawns with Wontons and Coconut Curry. Both of these dishes were top notch but Dora did overcook her dish by a little. Alexander wins again here in our opinion.
For desserts, we got to see Cannoli Napoleon with Mascarpone Cream from Alexander and Dora did a Poached Pear with Lemon Ginger Miso Sauce. Both of these dishes looked great and Dora nailed the perfect balance of sweetness as one of the judges said Alexander’s Cream was a little too sweet.
It looked like Alexander had a clear but narrow edge and in the end, Gordon announces that Alexander Weiss is the first winner of MasterChef Junior.
