Dr. Oz, January 13, 2014, is keeping up the momentum in this New Year with his Alkaline Diet that promises to fight inflammation, help prevent diabetes, and promote weight loss. Acid build up in our body causes a lot of harm. Many of us turn to pills that help stop acid reflux and we also keep eating acidic foods and sodas. Today, Oz has a new diet plan that will help you naturally balance out all that acid with alkaline foods. These foods stop acid in its tracks and fight the damage caused by acidic food in our system. The great thing is that you don’t need pills or supplements. You just need to make some subtle changes in your diet.
Step 1 Is Know What You Are Eating
Oz says that we need to know which foods promote acid and which ones promote alkaline in our body. You are what you eat so you need to know the foods that can cause you harm. Our diets are full of dairy and meat which produce acids on our body. These foods can damage the kidneys and liver and also put you at a greater Risk for diabetes. Below are the lists of Alkaline and Acid promoting foods.
Acid Promoting Foods
Olive Oil (most neutral), Low-fat yogurt, Whole milk, Butter, boiled Lentils, White bread, Whole-wheat cooked spaghetti, Plain bagel, dry roasted Peanuts, Walnuts, Hot dog, Chicken, Pepperoni, Lean beef, Wild cooked trout, hard boiled egg, Oats, Brown rice, Cooked salmon, White canned tuna fish, Mozzarella, Canned sardines, Cooked turkey bacon, Cheddar/American Cheese, and Parmesan Cheese(Most acidic). .
Alkaline Promoting Foods
Draft Beer (Most Neutral), Honey, Asparagus, Margarine, White wine, Broccoli, Marmalade, Mineral water, Watermelon, Apples, Red wine, Zucchini, Hazelnuts, Green beans, Tomatoes, Cherries, Radishes, Cauliflower, Potatoes, Apricots, Carrots, Celery, Bananas, Spinach, and Raisins (most alkaline-promoting).
The above lists are from least to greatest in acidic and alkaline content. Now that you know what foods are acidic and alkaline, you can start your diet.
Step 2 Use The 2 to 1 Rule
This diet is pretty simple. You just make sure you eat 2 alkaline foods for each acidic food you eat during your meals. If you have a glass of whole milk, make sure you follow it up with something like broccoli and tomatoes.
Step 3 Drinks are Important Too
Make sure you counteract acidic drinks by having an alkaline drink beforehand. If you want a glass of wine after dinner, make sure you drink some water with lemon in it at the end of your meal.
Don’t Forget The Spices
Many spices have an alkaline effect. Some are: Paprika, Chili Powder, Parsley, Ground ginger, and Curry. Adding these spices to your meals will help reduce the acidic effect of the meats and other foods you are cooking. Be creative and experiment.
Oz says incorporating this diet into your daily routine should be simple. He says this will prevent Toxic Acid Overload and help you prevent diabetes, lower your acid reflux symptoms, and promote natural long term weight loss.
