This morning on Good Morning America, ABC announced the cast for the new season of Dancing with the Stars due to premiere on March 17, 2014 with a two-hour kickoff. There is to be a new host beside Tom Bergeron and she is Erin Andrews who replaces Brooke Burke-Charvet. A twist called “The Switch Up” will allow the television audience to vote on how to change the professional and contestant pairings sometime during the season.
Lara is on the red carpeted podium stage next to the red carpeted runway on a stage lined with director chairs flanked by Tom Bergeron and new co-host, Erin Andrews, whose first name she obviously forgets as she states “Tom and Andrews take it away” before quickly exiting.
The announcements start with Bergeron remarking Maxim magazine says every red-blooded American male has crushed on this former Wonder Years star – Danica McKellar – who is later partnered with Valentin Chmerkoskiy. Andrews announces the next contestant beginning with the fact he is an Australian pop singer the girls will swoon over – Cody Simpson – who is paired with Witney Carson.
Of course the force will be with the next superstar to dance! Tom Bergeron introduces Billy Dee Williams scheduled to swing with Emma Slater as he dances solo (for now) down the runway. The next dancer competing swam from Cuba to Florida bringing as much fame as controversy last year – Diana Nyad – who teams with Henry Byalikov. He will have his hands full with this athlete who already has some moves.
Things get “real” as Tom Bergeron announces Nene Leakes, who was once on Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice, is to compete with the help of dance partner, Tony Dovolani. Hotcakes James Maslow from “Big Time Rush” appears onstage next through the introduction by Andrews. His partner? Peta Murgatroyd. Is the audience saying….WINNERS!
Former Detroit Red Wings hockey star, Sean Avery, who is as controversial on ice as off is brought onstage by Bergeron and partnered with Karina Smirnoff…this will be another couple to watch closely. Erin Andrews introduces comedienne Drew Carey with the famous line from The Price Is Right – “Come on down!” as he enters stage left to eventually gain Cheryl Burke as his professional dance partner. Tom Bergeron comments that at the rate he is losing weight, by the end of the season, Drew might weight twelve pounds!
Bergeron goes on to announce former Full House mom, Candace Cameron Bure, who makes a fabulous entrance looking hot as ever. She is going to dance this season away with Mark Ballas. They should go far if Ballas does not allow his ego to get the better of him as he has in the past going so far out-of-the box the team is eliminated. Following this, Andrews pumps up Olympic ice dancer, Charlie White, who will be twirling the nights away with Sharna Burgess this season. Will his moves on the ice translate to the wood?
Tom Bergeron announces a situation which probably has never occurred on Dancing with the Stars in its eighteen seasons – former Olympic gold medalist ice dancing partner of Charlie White, Meryl Davis, is competing against him for the mirror ball – with the phenomenal Maksim Chmerkovskiy who returns. Will this partnership bring Maks the win? If nothing else, it will be a gorgeous couple on the floor!
Lara comes out to talk with the contestants of which Meryl is first stating “It will be different” when she is asked how it is going to be competing against Charlie. Charlie feels moves on ice may move to wood but it will be challenging although always good to learn new things. The others are quickly run through with comments from “Looking forward to the outfits” as Lara approaches Nene Leakes to Drew Carey looking forward to the exercise to promote his new healthy lifestyle…”It’s a bucket list thing for me!”
Via video, Amy Purdy, Paralympic snowboarder currently training for an appearance in Sochi, Russia, states she is excited to get dancing but needs a partner who just happens to be…Derek Hough, five mirror ball championships. He announces the twist for the season which may actually level the playing field. Let the dancing begin on March 17, 2014 on ABC starting at 8/7c.
