Controversy follows Chelsea Handler but none so paramount as that following her recent book and tour, Uganda Be Kidding Me, which she discussed earlier today on Good Morning America stating she is NOT racist. She is one guest on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon (3/4/14) along with Lea Michele who leaked her tribute song to Cory Monteith, “If You Say So,” that critics say is not a sentimental song, but one of anger as is much of the album “Louder.” This is other interesting highlights from tonight’s episode~
Fallon opens the show at the Rockefeller Center in New York City with a monologue to standing ovation beginning with a welcome and people talking about Boehner calling Putin a “thug.” He takes a drink of water and starts to slur words and becomes tongue-tied with the letter “F.” Jimmy pokes fun at the fact Toronto mayor, Rob Ford, was on Kimmel last night as well as an assortment of other things to make one rise above the clouds. He states the Olympic gold medalist ice dancing team of Charlie White and Meryl Davis will be competing on Dancing with the Stars but the season is over before it starts because they have already won…they are champions in dance already, aren’t they?
The twist this season on Dancing with the Stars is partners will be switched at some point which is a lot like Fallon’s prom. One of the funny comments is that Microsoft is coming out with a smart phone digital assistant similar to Siri but named Cortana; it was supposed to be Cathy but John Travolta botched that announcement too! Fallon ends with jabs at Juan Pablo, The Bachelor, who is always touching the faces of the women…it should have been how he is always saying “It’s okay!”
The “Pros and Cons” segment starts after the announcement of the guests. The subject tonight is “Going to Mardi Gras” as it is Fat Tuesday after all! This is the list~
- Drinking on world-famous Bourbon Street
- The French call it “Mardi Gras”
- Learning about New Orleans rich, vibrant history
- In Brazil, the nonstop drinking and partying is called “Carnival”
- Going on twitter to talk about the parade
- Mardi Gras is the day before Ash Wednesday
- In New Orleans, it’s legal to drink alcohol in the streets
- New Orleans is famous for its shrimp and crabs
- It’s two straight weeks of wild partying, carousing, and debauchery
- Waking up on world-famous Bourbon Street
- John Travolta call is “Mardell Grazeem”
- By reading a plaque you stopped to pee next to
- In New York, it’s called “The Fourth Hour of the Today Show”
- Hearing a drunk guy shout “Show us your tweets!”
- Or as it’s also known – “Finding Out Which of Your Coworkers is Unexpectedly Religious” Day
- Seeing a stop sign and yelling “I’ll tell you when I’ve had enough!”
- So was I in college
- Or as Rob Ford call that “campaigning”
After a break, the show returns with Fallon complimenting the Roots before “Freestylin’ with the Roots” where the audience produces words the band must improvise a song on the spot to. The first woman is named Alicia from Charlotte who likes to dance in private who would dance with Jimmy Fallon is she could. Jimmy calls for a disco beat for the first tune…it was pretty cool.
The next audience member chosen is Ashley whose craziest stunt on spring break is swimming who would give up school for Lent. Bruce from the Roots comes up with a song with an Irish drinking beat. It was funny as he included the fact her father was sitting in the audience with her. The final choice is a guy wearing a sweatshirt with the word “Anonymous” on it as Fallon asks his name. Sam would have Meryl Streep play him in a movie called “Anonymous” and Jimmy asks for a “Happy” beat. Fun, fun, fun!
Chelsea Handler comes on stage after Jimmy Fallon introduces her new book, Uganda Be Kidding Me, which hit the stores today. Fallon jumps right in an asks what her take on the events in the Ukraine is. She says she knows a lot about Russians because Putin is her ex from when she was sixteen who broke up with her on vacation because she was Jewish even though they met on “JDate.” Jimmy holds up a picture of the shirtless Russian President fishing on a river and one of him looking as though he is trying to escape alligators she states was at the Serengeti with the final one of her with the president riding horseback (photoshop spectacular).
Her tour starts tomorrow in Washington D.C. then to Cleveland and then onto New York City as well as Boston. The book is about her travels especially to Africa where Jimmy Fallon went with Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz with the MTV show “Trippin.'” The two of them reminisce about their times in the country including gaining weight. They toast her book with margaritas.
Jimmy Fallon brings Lea Michele out to talk about her album “Louder” which is already #1 on iTunes. She is on the cover of Teen Vogue as her life takes off after “Glee.” She states this album took almost two years to complete before stating her father says Fallon will be really successful as the greatest host for three reasons: he is funny, he is unique, and he has a great voice. There is talk about “Glee” and shooting the 100th episode in foam. She sings “Cannonball” from the album to close the show. She really has a beautiful voice.
