Doctor Oz, 1/12/2018, showcases new healthy food trends to help cut the carbs and give new ways to get nutrients and vitamins. Oz is always talking about substitutes for favorite “bad” foods but the real problem for the average person is that these substitutes never really satisfy the craving. Sure a person can make it a while by using a slice of iceberg lettuce as a piece of bread but the mind knows it is not getting what it is craving and the urge stays there. There are tons of substitute products out there, very few of them actually deliver a 100% replacement. Oz says there is hope on the horizon with 5 Trendy Foods you will hear about in 2018.
Healthy Alternatives for 2018
Everything Bagel Seasoning– This spice promises to satisfy those bagel cravings by allowing a person to sprinkle it over lower carb alternatives. Made from sesame seeds, poppy seeds, onion powder, garlic powder, and sea salt. It could give any dieter a new flavor combination to help cut down cravings but how is this supposed to be a substitute to bagels?
Probiotic Water– Probiotics are key to gut health. A healthy gut means the body processes food and retains the nutrients of the food eaten. Some people shy away from yogurt and hate taking supplements. This could be a great way to get more good bacteria in the gut if the price is not outrageous.
Mushroom Coffee– Made by boiling and liquefying mushrooms, Oz says this is a healthier alternative to starting the day off with real coffee. No word on what type mushrooms to use but it will look like regular coffee. If a person can stand the taste then it may work. Taste is the key here.
Chicken Pizza Crust– Oz says pizza is one food many people can’t seem to live without. The crust usually means loads of carbs. Using ground chicken to make a crust could work. Oz says this is becoming popular in many health centered locations. Again, texture and taste is key here. If the chicken crust can hold up to the sauce and ingredients without getting mushy, it could be a better way to satisfy those urges without loading up on carbs.
Fishless Tuna– Tuna can be a healthy meat alternative but with the growing number of people trying to go vegan, this new concoction promises all the joy with none of the guilt. Some meatless alternatives have been successful. Other have fallen flat. Again, if used in a salad, it could be a hit but on its own? Taste will tel the tale.
