Los Angeles (CMR) - With over $45.1 million in box office sales in it’s opening weekend, 20th Century Fox’s “Horton Hears A Who!” has taken the title as the largest grossing film of 2008.
Based on the Dr.Seuss story baring the same name, actors Jim Carrey and Steve Carell voice the two main characters of the movie, providing the same comedic genius we’ve seen in their past movies such as “Bruce Almighty”.
While 20th Century Fox had expected the film to trump the $55.1 million that their last Seuss movie, “How The Grinch Stole Christmas”, has made in 2000; audiences and critics alike both seem to be of the same mindset when it comes to their enjoyment of this film.
From just one weekend in theaters, “Horton Hears A Who!” has left it’s mark as Carrey’s 4th largest movie opening in his career; the 5th largest grossing G-Rated film in history, and this weekends #1 highest grossing film.
With Easter school vacation right around the corner, it’s easy for studio executives to expect this film to continue to gain steam as we head into it’s first full week in theaters.
Other top grosing movies this weekend included: “10,000 BC” at $16.4 million for it’s second week in theaters, “Never Back Down” took in $8.6 million.
1. Horton Hears a Who! $45.1 M
2. 10,000 B.C. $16.4 M
3. Never Back Down $8.6 M
4. College Road Trip $7.9 M
