“21″ Takes Top Spot At Weekend Box Office

Los Angeles (CMR) - This weekend, move goers laid down their bets on the new gambling flick, “21″ which took in $23.7 million, according to studio estimates.

“21″ tells the story of a genius who uses his skills to win big at the blackjack tables in Vegas. The film stars Starring Kevin Spacey, KateBosworth and Jim Sturgess as the math geniuses.

“Horton Hears A Who!” still going strong, earned an estimated $17.4 million. Last weekend the family film earned $25.1 million.

Rounding out the top three was the spoof comedy, “Superhero Movie” earning $9.5 million.

Overall, few people went to the theatres this weekend compared to last year. The top 12 movies took in $90 million, down 23 percent from the same weekend last year.
