Los Angeles (CMR) – Every season on Dancing With the Stars, the dance I look forward to the most is the jive. I love how fast and energetic it is and just how much fun it looks. Last night’s jives were good, but I’ve seen better performances from past stars. Ah, well. The tango was also danced by half the stars, so it was interesting to see who performed what.
Favourite jive
Shannon and Derek: Yes, I know that Cristián and Cheryl got a better score, but I enjoyed this one more. Except during practice, when Shannon was complaining about how long her legs are, I wanted to kick her. I’m 5’2”, so I was just a tad jealous. However, she’s right about her lankiness. She doesn’t move as smoothly as Stacy Keibler, who’s got a couple of inches on her, but they looked like they were having a blast.
Worst jive
Marissa and Tony: I thought she was going to rock this out but not even close. The inappropriate energy that she displayed in her first dance, the cha cha, should have been what she showed last night, but the smile on her face looked fake. It was boring, slow and had a lot of mistakes.
Favourite tango
Mario and Karina: Figures the first time I truly dug Mario and Karina’s performance, the judges didn’t. I thought it looked crisp, sharp and the look on his face was intense, yet not over-the-top. Len hated it and thought it was a mess, Carrie Ann agreed with Len, while Bruno enjoyed it but agreed that they could have done better. Whatev. I liked it. Plus, I can’t keep talking about Kristi all season.
Worst tango
Steve and Anna: Look, I love Gutte. He’s a likable guy with an infectious smile. And it was easily their best dance so far but for me, it’s still not good enough. I know, I know, what about Adam? I actually don’t think Adam is as bad as he thinks he is and I love his self-deprecating sense of humour. While Adam’s facial expression was comical, Gutte’s looked like a bad actor trying to look angry. I just didn’t buy it.
I think Marissa’s going home tonight. And I’m on the fence about that because I feel like Tony has let her down. This girl has rocked Broadway and won a Tony, and I just feel she hasn’t been given the proper choreography that would really show off her strengths.
Also, Kylie Minogue performs in the ballroom. Great. Now I can’t get her out of my head.
