Los Angeles (CMR) - For Week 6 on Dancing With the Stars, the pairs will tackle two dances for the first time – a dance they and their partner have not yet performed and a group number.

It started off like any average night with average scores. Jason and Edyta’s cha cha, Shannon and Derek’s rumba, and Marlee and Fabian’s mambo were all good but not great.

Then the show stepped it up. Cristián and Cheryl’s rumba last week was fairly mediocre, and to no surprise, the pair landed in the bottom two. This week, Cris’ goal was to step it up with the foxtrot and he sure did. It was beautiful and refined, easily their best dance of the season. Len had the best quote of the night: “If you’re in the bottom two tomorrow, I’ll show my bum in the supermarket!” And Tom responded with one of his always-snappy comebacks: “I hope you’re in the frozen foods section.” Heh.

Tony had a harder time, trying to transform Marissa into a princess. But their Viennese waltz was light, frothy and absolutely elegant. Carrie Ann said she was on the “Winokur wave” and I have to agree. This girl has gotten better and better as the weeks have gone by which, as a viewer, is what’s to be expected.

And while Cris and Marissa were great, they clearly saved the best for second-last. While learning the fancy footwork of the jive, Kristi revealed to Mark that she was born with club feet, and had to overcome the obstacle to make her Olympian dreams come true. Um, what? I’ve just assumed she always had these natural, graceful abilities – which I’m sure is true – but she’s also had to work really hard to get them, which makes her accomplishments so admirable. Their jive was fast and fun with tons of tricks and the pair earned 10s from all three judges.

Mario and Karina’s rumba, which Len dubbed as “good” but a tad “raunchy” was a little unnerving to see, in light of all the untrue rumours about an off-screen affair. But for the first time, I actually liked their take on the rumba, which was sexy and smokin’ hot. Hmmm… what does that say about me?

Capping the night was the group dance, which was a fun, country-themed routine packed with lifts, spins and lots of normally illegal moves. Though it looked like a blast, it was a little too chaotic for my taste.

Marlee had the lowest score of the night but for some reason, I still think she may be safe. Perhaps people want to see Len’s bum… could Cristián be eliminated? Or will Shannon’s off-week be her last?
