MGM to reboot ‘Robocop’ franchise

Darren Aronofsky and David Self have signed on for MGM’s new instalment of the Robocop”franchise.

New York (CMR) - Darren Aronofsky and David Self have signed on for MGM’s new instalment of the “Robocop” franchise.

Aronofsky, director of The Fountain, “Requiem for a Dream” and “Pi” will direct while Self of “Road to Perdition” will be writing the new film.

Mike Medavoy, the producer of the original film in 1987 will also be producing this film with Arnold Messer, Brad Fischer and David Thwaites.

Medavoy said “After making the first Robocop at Orion more than 20 years ago, I’m thrilled to be helping to return this character to the screen with our partners at MGM and through the eyes of Darren Aronofsky and David Self.”

“Robocop” is being fast-tracked for a release in 2010.
