New Line asks for more ‘Hairspray’

New York (CMR) - A sequel to “Hairspray” is in the works. John Waters who created Hairpspray has signed a deal with New Line Cinemas to write a sequel.
Adam Shankman, director and cheorographer of the original “Hairspray” is planning on returning for the sequel along with producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron.
New songs will also be written by the original Tony-winning songwriters Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.
None of the “Hairspray” cast which included John Travolta, Christopher Walken, Nikki Blonsky, Michelle Pfieffer and Zac Efron has signed on for the sequel but the studio hopes that they will all return.
Warner Bros. is hoping to release the sequel in July of 2010.
