Did the Oscars Really “Forget” Farrah Fawcett, Bea Arthur and Ed McMahon?

Last night, the Oscars paid tribute to fallen comrades in the filmmaking industry, most notably Patrick Swayze and Brittany Murphy, but unaccountably forgot to include actress Farrah Fawcett, who passed away in June after a long battle with cancer.

Fawcett was the unforgettable angel named Jill Munroe on “Charlie’s Angels” as well as having been nominated for multiple Emmy and Golden Globe awards for her work in “Charlie’s Angels” and the television movie “The Burning Bed” and others.

Also snubbed in the Oscar’s memoriam was Golden Girl Bea Arthur, who passed away last April, also from cancer.

Ed McMahon also reportedly was not included in the memoriam as well, and he passed away in June, just two days before Farrah. McMahon was most notably a game show host and announcer for Johnny Carson.

Is it possible that these three famous and much-missed celebrity actresses and actors were excluded from the Oscar’s memoriam montage due to the fact that they did not have much of a traditional film presence? While all of them had been in several movies, the bulk of their careers and prestige centered on TV.  Are the Oscars that exclusive?

I am so angry that they forgot such incredible actors. Farah did Logan’s Run and Bea Arthur was in Mame..a wonderful film that I still love to watch. Ed McMahan… really they forgot him… This is just cold..cold for them to forget them! Was this not the show for actors?? This is just disrespectful!

Unbelievable that these three great entertainment industry people were not included. To say they were forgotten is an insult…they were deliberately not included…Shame on you Academy. You need a lesson on good taste and manners. All three of these people have brought such joy into my life of 68 years and I will never forget them…or not include them in my memories as the Academy seemed fit to do.

It is a major disappointment that Bea Arthur and Farah Fawcett were not in the montage. If they want to keep us older folks (over 40) watching they should show some respect for the people that we remember and felt contributed to the movie and theater industry. I was outraged and turned off the show after the montage, quite saddened that these two were not included, yet Michael Jackson was. Perhaps it is a political decision.

I didn’t even notice they weren’t in because although I love Bea Arthur and have been a fan of Farrah Faucet’s work, I honestly thought they were TV people not Movie people. But what do i know, they only have so many minutes to show every one and the news was lit up about their deaths but half of the people in the Oscar thingy I never knew had died. So how many times do we as the general public need to see the same old pictures and hear how great they are? i think their deaths are sad BUT it is like when someone in your family dies, it really matters to you and makes you sad but no one else want to hear about it.

Death is sad, but it is part of the cycle. I don’t think there was snub to be rude, I think i ti was because of time and looking at all the other awards shows and thinking where did the bulk of the fame come from – let that genre do a memorial. as it is they cut the crap out of the Oscars anyways.

Got something to say?
