Los Angeles (CMR) – The original material girl, Madonna, and other music legends were inducted into the United States Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Monday, March 10. Honored along with Madonna were John Mellencamp, Leonard Cohen, the Ventures, and the Dave Clark Five as part of the 23rd annual ceremony which was held at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York.

The newest batch of inductees was carefully selected by a committee, which was also guided by hundreds of music authorities. The requirements to belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame include being in the music industry for more than 25 years. John Mellencamp may be remembered for his album, “Freedom’s Road.” The Dave Clark Five is said to have a “bittersweet” celebration upon being inducted, because of the recent death of lead singer Mike Smith in February.

It was in 1982 when Madonna recorded her first album in the US entitled “Madonna” and soon later, she became a hit in the UK. Some of her most recent albums were “Confessions on a Dance Floor” and “American Life.”

Hosting the event was Justin Timberlake, who recently worked in collaboration with Madonna in her album entitled, “Hard Candy,” which will be her eleventh studio album, and it will be released in April.
