The British singing sensation, Leona Lewis, who has been touted by Simon Cowell, and whose hit songs have been getting plenty of play on American radio stations, has been punched in the face at her book signing in London.  Lewis’ debut album entered the U.S. charts at number one in 2008, making her the first British woman to achieve that feat.  Lewis was signing copies of her book Dreams at a Waterstone’s book store in Piccadilly Circus when she was attacked. According to eye witnesses, “He [the attacker] walked up there with the book, she signed it and, as she looked up, he just punched her.”
The singer was (understandably) badly shaken, but did not need hospitalization, according to her spokesperson.  Lewis was examined by a doctor and is now “doing fine”. A Waterstone representative said they “can confirm there was an incident at the Leona Lewis signing this afternoon. The event was immediately stopped by the security guards present and the police are talking to the individual concerned.”
Reports indicate that a 29 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and is being questioned at a central London police station; no word yet on if this man had a personal connection to Ms. Lewis, or was just some sort of crazed fan gone wrong.
