Yoko Ono, singer and wife of the late Beatle John Lennon, got choked up when she heard Lady GaGa perform the Lennon hit song “Imagine”. The flashy and vibrant pop singer performed the song at a Human Rights Campaign dinner in Washington, DC.

Yoko posted on her Twitter Blog after the concert, “Dear Lady Gaga, Thank you for singing
‘Imagine’. Hearing that made me choke up. You are so beautiful! In Sisterhood and love, Yoko.”

President Obama attended the dinner and came on stage ahead of Lady GaGa saying, “It’s privilege to be here tonight to open for Lady Gaga… I’ve made it.”

Lady GaGa changed the lyrics of Lennon’s famous song in tribute to a gay college student, Matthew Sheppard, who was murdered in 1998. It is claimed that the murder was due to the student’s sexual orientation and helped to bring international attention to “hate crimes”.

GaGa sang, “Imagine there’s no heaven/ It’s easy if you try. No hell below us/ And only Matthew in the sky.”
