Janet Jackson, singer of hit songs like “Escapade”, will be the opening act for the 2009 American Music Awards (AMA) to be broadcast on November 22. Janet, who has won 9 AMA awards herself and has performed at the Award show on three previous events, will undoubtedly be doing a tribute to her late brother, Michael Jackson, who died earlier this year. Janet’s late brother, Michael Jackson, is nominated in five categories. Larry Klein, AMA producer said, “We’re thrilled about having Janet Jackson open this year’s show. She is an incredibly dynamic performer and I think the audience will be excited to see what she has in store.”
Whiteny Houston, who has 21 AMA awards herself, will be honored with the “International Artist Award” and will be performing her new single, “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength”. Also performing this year will be Shakira, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Kelly Clarkson, Jay-Z, Carrie Underwood, and Green Day.
