The pop music sensation, Miley Cyrus, formerly known as Hannah Montana to her teenaged television and movie fans, has endured a tragic loss this week. On Interstate 85 in Dinwiddie, Virginia, one of Miley Cyrus’ tour buses overturned about 8:15 a.m. on Friday morning, killing bus driver Bill Douglas, 53. Neither the music star, Cyrus, nor her family was on the bus, but nine of the other fourteen passengers on the bus sustained minor injuries. The bus was carrying production crew members, traveling to prepare for Cyrus’ upcoming concert; Miley was scheduled to perform Sunday in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Miley Cyrus is the sixteen year old daughter of country music singer, Billy Rae Cyrus, who hit it big with his break-out song “Achy Breaky Heart” in the early nineties. Miley Cyrus has expressed her grief for “Uncle Bill” on her website: “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Bill “Uncle Bill” Douglas. Members of our tour are like members of our family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family in the midst of this tragedy. He will be truly missed.” Miley Cyrus’ Sunday concert will go on as scheduled.
