pdohPete Doherty, singer for the hit group “Babyshambles”, was recently kicked off the stage at the German Music Festival in Munich for singing banned parts of the German National Anthem. Doherty immediately started singing the first two verses of the song, which has been banned since WWII and was immediately jeered by the fans attending. Pete was allowed to continue for 5 more songs before he was asked to leave and the live radio broadcast was cut off. Organizer Bayerischer Rundfunk said: “As the British say, ‘We are not amused.’ Unfortunately, it was unforeseeable. Live is live. Only the third verse of the national anthem is allowed to be sung in Germany. The first stanza of the anthem translates as: “Germany, Germany above all / Above all in the world. When, for protection and defense, it always takes a brotherly stand together. / From the Meuse to the Memel, From the Adige to the Belt, Germany, Germany above everything. Above everything in the world.” Pete Doherty has since issued an apology for his ignorant actions.
