This year’s Critics’ Choice winner at the BRIT Awards was Ellie Goulding, known for her single “Starry Eyed” and her debut album “Lights.” However the demure singer/songwriter who simply plays her guitar and sings so successfully, claims to be inspired by Lady Gaga’s extravagant stage presentations.
Goulding said: “I spoke to Lady Gaga at the BRITs and I thought she was a nice girl.
“In terms of what she puts into a live show, she is the hardest working musician I know. I’d love my gigs to be as good as hers, but in a less dramatic way. I write songs, play guitar and sing. There’s nothing more to it than that.”
Goulding was also impressed by other musicians she met at the BRITs, such as Forence Welch from Florence and the Machine, who was the Critics Choice winner in 2009.
“[Florence] gave me a big hug and told me how much she loved my songs. She was motherly and that helped me get through the evening.”
However, Goulding maintained that she was more surprised than anyone to receive an award that night. “I’d gone to the BRITs feeling I didn’t really deserve to be there. I’d only released one single and winning a prize wasn’t something I’d been working towards.
“Getting an award meant a lot, but the rest of the night was bizarre. I was sitting on a table with Jay-Z and Girls Aloud. That kind of thing isn’t supposed to happen to girls like me!”
