Los Angeles was rocked by a 4.4 mangnitude earthquake at around 4 am this morning. The earthquake was centered about 10 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. No injuries or deaths have been reported but a 10 foot stretch of the southbound lane of Interstate 5 was buckled causing some traffic problems.  The damaged stretch of road was already in need of repair and the California Highway Patrol said that the earthquake probably contributed to the damage. The earthquake was not major but was felt in quite q few neighboring areas from San Bernardino County to the east and Santa Monica to the west. Investigations are underway to determine the fault responsible for the earthquake as there are many surrounding Los Angeles. Geologists have speculated that there is a small chance this tremor could be a precursor to a larger event but only time will tell.
