According to CBS Sports President Sean McManus, Tiger Woods’ return to golf at Augusta will be one of the “biggest media spectacles in recent memory.” It might even rank higher than Barack Obama’s inauguration, he said.

CBS gets to televise the weekend part of the event, and believes it will be huge. Before CBS changes their name to CB$, let’s figure out how huge they’re talking.

Well, it’s estimated that approximately 93 million people watch the SuperBowl. Last year, with the Masters falling on Easter Sunday, they figured roughly 42 million tuned in at some point over the weekend.

In 2009, a 30-second spot for the SuperBowl went for about $3 million. Oddly enough, there doesn’t seem to be any readily available data on how much a 30-second spot in last year’s Masters tournament cost.  However you can bet it’s going to be a tad bit more this year.

Will the usual advertisers bring out some fun commercials? Maybe Betty White can star in an ad for Callaway drivers. The new slogan could be “Drivers that make even Betty White look good on the course.”
