Washington (CMR) - Hollywood superstar Drew Barrymore was reported by Reuters to have donated $1 million to the World Feeding Programme (WFP) of the United Nations, of which she is an ambassador for hunger. Drew Barrymore announced that the WFP aims to gather $3 billion to feed more than 59 million hungry children who lived in developing nations for one year.

The name of the project is “Fill a Cup,” and is hoping to receive donations from the United States that will take care of 10 million of those starving children, according to the WFP. Drew Barrymore explains how a small amount of nutritious food can make a difference for a hungry child, and she has traveled to Kenya twice recently in the last two years as part of her advocacy for WFP.

According to the executive director of the WFP, Josette Sheeran, about $50 will be enough to keep a child from starving for a year. These children very much need the nutrition to help them learn better and to stay healthy. The WFP strongly urges the public to make their donations through their website at http://www.wfp.org.

Drew Barrymore may be remembered from hit movies such as “Charlie’s Angels”, “Fifty First Dates”, “Music and Lyrics” and more. She is said to be one of the highest earning actresses in Hollywood today.
