Arlington (CMR) - Kickboxing sensation Jason Statham is said to have gone beyond his usual action-film roles in the recently released suspense thriller “The Bank Job.”

The UK-based film, which was directed by Roger Donaldson, premiered in the United States on March 7.

The film was actually based on a true bank heist which happened in Baker Street in London in 1971.

Statham plays a different role this time, as Terry Leather, a father and a husband. However, the character still manages to fit the same tough guy personalities as in his former films like “Crank” and “The Transporter I and II.”

The lead character in “The Bank Job” is coaxed to raid a safety deposit box for Royal Family photos that the British Intelligence wants to get their hands on.

Also starring Saffron Burrows, Daniel Mays, and Stephen Moore, this action-packed flick also has hints of comedy and romance.

Burrows plays the part of a British Intelligence agent who happens to know how to push Leather’s buttons so he would agree to the heist. According to reviews, Statham gives his usual exciting performance as the militant car dealer who leads a team of bank robbers.

The film was written by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais.
