Los Angeles (CMR) - The Hannah Montana star, who was born Destiny Hope Cyrus, has filed a petition through her parents to make Miley Ray Cyrus as what everyone would call her today as her legal name.

Parents Billy Ray and Leticia Cyrus filed the papers Friday in Los Angeles County Superior Court on their daughter’s behalf. The petition states that Cyrus wants to “make her commonly used name the same as her legal name.” Since January, their daughter was contemplating in legally changing her name.

As stated in the petition paper, they will also have to publish a notice of her name change in order to make it official or in other words to be able to use it in official situations.

The 15-year-old TV and pop star has also said that her first name originates from a nickname her dad gave her as a baby, “Smiley Miley” because she smiled a lot.

Miley Cyrus rose to fame after staring in Disney Channel’s original series, “Hannah Montana,” where she plays Miley Stewart, a high school girl who transforms on weekends as Hannah Montana, a pop diva.

Her album “Hannah Montana” made millions and sold over 3.2 million copies in the United States and more than 4 million worldwide.
