Los Angeles (CMR) - Writer A.E. Hotchner told the Associated Press that his friend and business partner, Paul Newman is fighting cancer.
“I know that it’s a form of cancer,” Hotchner said. “It’s a form of cancer, and he’s dealing with it.”
Hotchner partnered with Newman to start Newman’s Own salad dressing company in the 1980s which donates all of its profits to charity.
According to the company’s website it has donated over $200 million since its start.
Newman, 85, made a statement that he’s “doing nicely” but wouldn’t specify what he was suffering from.
Newman has been nominated for nine Oscars in his career and won for The Colour of Money.
In May 2007, he announced he was going to give up acting, and said he was no longer able to perform to the best of his ability.
“I’m not able to work anymore… at the level that I would want to,” he said.
Last month, Newman backed out of directing a stage production of John Steinbeck’s “Of Mice and Men” due to undisclosed health problems.
