Los Angeles (CMR) - Tom Cruise was originally thought to be the star of Columbia Pictures espionage thriller “Edwin A. Salt” but he’s now been replaced by Angelina Jolie.

According to Variety, the script is being rewritten by Kurt Wimmer to allow Angelina Jolie to star in the film.

Jolie is close to securing the role of the lead character, a CIA officer who’s accused of being a Russian spy and has to avoid being caught while trying to prove her innocence.

Cruise recently lost interest in the project and Jolie expressed interest causing the studio to rethink their original male role and will now be renaming the film to reflect the female lead.

Jolie just gave birth to twins and it is yet to be seen if this film will be her comeback or if it will be the drama “Atlas Shrugged”.
