An update on Patrick Swayze.

New York (CMR) – When news broke in early 2008 that actor Patrick Swayze had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, his fans were shocked. The shock was even harder to take when the odds of survival were made known. Overall, pancreatic cancer has a survival rate of less than five percent.

Still, Swayze showed his true grit by facing the disease head on and refusing to let it hinder his goals in life. He went full ahead with his A&E series, “The Beast,” which stars Swayze as an FBI agent. Reports from the set say that Swayze was nothing but a professional, working grueling twelve hour days, foregoing painkillers, and taking only one day off despite going through harsh treatments for his disease.

Even with Swayze’s perseverance to finish filming on “the Beast,” recent news raises suspicions on how well the actor is doing health wise. Not only is “Dirty Dancing” actor supposedly dealing with a lung infection that has him sidelined, but A&E did not include “The Beast” in its fall lineup. Though the network has not canceled the show, this news does cast doubt on whether or not Swayze would be healthy enough to film for a new season.

For those who want to know more about Swayze and his battle with cancer, a new biography has been released about the actor. Called “Patrick Swayze: One Last Dance,” this in depth biography gives a painful but affirming portrait of Swayze’s dedication to his craft as well as to his will to live.
