Patrick Swayze Denies Rumors of Death with a Photo

Patrick Swayze squelched reports that he had died by releasing a photo and a press release. The picture showed a painfully thin—but undeniably alive—Swayze sitting beside his wife and their two dogs at their property in New Mexico.

The photo was released following a rash of rumors that the former superstar had died. Reportedly, Jacksonville, Florida radio station WFKS, Kiss FM, had been the first to report his death.

But it wasn’t the last.

The social networking website, Twitter, soon picked up the rumor and spread it around the Internet. Before long, the web was saturated with the rumor. Even the online encyclopedia, Wikipedia, reported his death.

The 56-year-old star of Dirty Dancing and Ghost put that rumor to “rest” by issuing a recent picture of himself and a statement of denial from his spokesperson.

Swayze has been battling pancreatic cancer—and rumors of his impending death—since January of 2008. Though his cancer has progressed to “stage 4,” his publicist says that he is responding well to treatment.

WFKS, Kiss FM has not, so far, issued an explanation for their initial report of Swayze’s death. A Jacksonville newspaper reported that it had left several messages at the radio station on Tuesday and Wednesday, but none of their calls had been returned.

Swayze is currently penning his memoirs, which he plans to publish this fall.

I don’t understand why people have to spread rumors. Why can’t they just leave him alone. He is a very sick man and doesn’t need anymore on his plate. This world needs to stop bothering people like him. God Bless you Patrick Swayze. I will keep you andyour family in my prayers.
