Oscar winning actor and star of “Leaving Las Vegas,” Nicholas Cages is in deep water, treading to stay afloat amid major money woes; woes, he says, are the fault of his crooked former money manager, Samuel J. Levin.
The Wall Street Journal reports that the star of the “National Treasure” films is suing Levin for $20 million. According to reports, Cage owes the Internal Revenue Service a whopping $6.3 million in back taxes, and is being forced to sell off many of his treasured real estate assets, including his European castle. The IRS has put a $6 million lien on Cage’s New Orleans home, as well.
Cage, famously known as a relative of director Francis Ford Coppola, is also famous for his lavish spending habits. According to one source, Cage, “Spent money like water.” With a penchant for fine things and rare treasures, The Daily Beast reports Cage has purchased over two dozen homes, two islands, dinosaur heads, shrunken skulls and more than fifty automobiles. Cage said he had trusted Levin to make good choices with the fortune he had amassed, so that his family could live comfortably as they all grew older. Now, he must figure out just how big a mess Levin has created for him, as Cage claims Levin lined his own pockets with millions in fees and bogus financial charges.
There is no word yet on when the suit will see a courtroom, or if a settlement will be reached with the IRS. And, although Nicholas Cage may be a big spender, he is also a big giver. He donated $1 million dollars to the American Red Cross after Hurricane Katrina, and Amnesty International reports Cage donated $2 million to their cause.
