Nicolas Cage, star of the hit movies “National Treasure”, is claiming he is in dire financial straits because of the misdealings of his business manager, Samuel J. Levin. Cage claims the business manger was grossly incompetent and he is having to liquidate assets to cover the over $6 million he owes the IRS and other outstanding debts.
Samuel Levin has responded with a cross complaint against Cage where he insists the “Leaving Las Vegas” actor did not listen to his advice in what would keep the star solvent. Levin said, “From the start of our Business Management Agreement he knew about his perilous financial situation and he knew he was behind on paying his taxes.” Levin also claims that he advised Cage that the star needed to earn a minimum of $30 million a year to sustain his lavish lifestyle. Samuel also says he set up a group of financial objectives for Cage, that included selling off a comic book collection, worth $1.6 million, and getting Nicolas to part with 12 of his many cars. Levin also says that after having a run on hit films the actor went back to his old spending ways where he purchased 22 new cars (9 of which were Rolls Royces), 3 new houses, lots of lavish jewelry, and 47 pieces of expensive art work. Levin claims his advice was “ignored and rebuked”.
Nicolas Cage has recently had 2 homes foreclosed on in New Orleans and is reported to have 3 more in foreclosure in California.
