The starring actor in Fox television’s hit show “24,” Kiefer Sutherland, has been swindled out of money by a man running a cattle buying scheme. The Associated Press out of Stockton, California reports that the actor, along with another couple in New Mexico, gave a man named Wayne Carr of Linden money to buy cattle in a business transaction; a scam on Mr. Carr’s customers that netted the thief a reported one million dollars. Prosecutors in the case say that Wayne Carr had agreements with his customers to buy steers in Mexico and sell them for profit in the United States. Mr. Carr got away with a reported $869,000 from actor Kiefer Sutherland, and another $177,000 from the New Mexico couple involved. Prosecutors say no record exists of Mr. Carr ever purchasing the steers; and that Mr. Carr sold steers that never actually belonged to him. Wayne Carr is charged with twelve felony counts, including grand theft, forgery and embezzlement. Mr. Carr will be arraigned on February 8th; if convicted in the cattle scam against Kiefer Sutherland and the New Mexico couple, Wayne Carr could face eighteen years in prison.
