Recently, 48-year-old actor Forest Whitaker said he had to gain a lot of weight for his role of Ugandan dictator Idi Amin in “The Last King of Scotland,” and afterwards he had to get serious about diet and exercise. However, since he’s a vegetarian, it didn’t hurt.
“Life is full of choices, and many years ago, I chose to become a vegetarian, and it was one of the best choices I’ve ever made,” says Forest.
His daughter, True, is also a vegetarian and says she loves animals, and can’t think of a better reason not to eat meat than that!
Whitaker says his secret to success in movies and in life has always been to be very selective, not only in what he eats, but in what roles he chooses.
“I didn’t want to play a drug dealer for 10 years on a soap opera. At that time, I didn’t care about money. I’d rather starve. That’s my secret. I built a career playing interesting characters because I followed my heart.”
