Senator Harry Reid has been the leader in the push for government run health care and it is NOT because he “cares” for the average working people. Senator Reid wants us to turn over control to him and his Democratic partners because then they will have more control over their campaign contributors and us. A report from campaignlegalcenter.org shows the tally of health care related contributions to candidates in 2008. In the report, Senator Reid received almost 25% of his PAC related campaign money from health care sources including hospitals and drug companies. Campaign legal center is quoted as saying,

“The health care industry opened its wallets to leaders in the health care debate, including Reid, who was the top recipient of health care PAC money to candidates’ campaign committees. In the first half of this year, Reid received $168,500 from health care interests, amounting to almost a quarter of the PAC contributions his campaign received. The money represented the interests of a range of medical associations, hospitals, drug companies and other providers.”

Now in a recent article on the “Huffington Post”, the writer suggested that since Senator Joe Lieberman had taken money from insurance companies, he was going to block any “government run” health care plan. The insinuation was that Lieberman was in the pocket of the insurance companies. Well the facts stated above can be shown to conclude that Harry Reid is in the pockets of the drug companies, hospitals, and medical associations. Remember, the figures above are for just one year 2008. Let’s stop playing this game shall we? ALL of our elected representatives take money from sources that can be made to look as if they are being bought off. It is the way our government works and it IS WRONG. We should all come together and stop it.

The Democrats have pushed this “Government Option” because they say the insurance companies are making huge profits. There is even talk of taxing them more. Now who will this hurt? The consumer of course. And just to give a little tidbit here, the insurance companies are running some of the lowest profit margins of ANY business. The Democrats in congress are demonizing an industry just to sway the public into letting our government take control of one more part of our lives. A quote from a Yahoo fact check article states, “In the health care debate, Democrats and their allies have gone after insurance companies as rapacious profiteers making “immoral” and “obscene” returns while “the bodies pile up.”
Ledgers tell a different reality. Health insurance profit margins typically run about 6 percent, give or take a point or two. That’s anemic compared with other forms of insurance and a broad array of industries, even some beleaguered ones. Profits barely exceeded 2 percent of revenues in the latest annual measure. This partly explains why the credit ratings of some of the largest insurers were downgraded to negative from stable heading into this year, as investors were warned of a stagnant if not shrinking market for private plans.”

Now Senator Reid, quit playing games and start having a serious discussion of how to control health care costs. We know what your game is and it is time to stop playing these “Fear mongering” and class warfare games with the average person.
