John Murtha, Democrat who was the representative for Pennsylvania, died yesterday at the age of 77 from “complications” from a recent gallbladder surgery. Anonymous sources have reported that Murtha’s large intestine was accidentally cut during the surgery causing an infection. Murtha was the first Vietnam War Veteran elected to Congress and was known as a champion for Veteran’s rights. Murtha served 36 years in the House of Representatives. John Murtha was always drawing scrutiny for his massive earmarks that he brought home to his district and was drawing fire for seemingly inappropriate dealings. When asked about these corruption charges Murtha famously responded, “If I’m corrupt, it’s because I take care of my district.” Murtha was known for his “bring home the bacon” style of politics as he always seemed to take care of his district. John Murtha will be missed by many on both sides of the aisle.
