The Tea Party Is Here to Stay

Speaking at a luncheon, Dick Armey down-played comments regarding some recent Tea Party difficulties. In Texas, the GOP candidate came in third for governor and several candidates for the House were barely even noticed. Armey off-set these circumstances by reminding everyone of the successes in other states, like the Senate race in Florida and other primaries in Utah.
Armey said, “This should surprise nobody.” The foundation of the Republican and Democratic parties “is very real, very strong, very pervasive and has been in place a long time. Third party efforts don’t compete well with that.”
Armey represented a suburban Dallas district for 18 years before retiring from his post as the House Majority Leader in 2002. He is now the head of FreedomWorks, a conservative group with deep ties to the Tea Party.
Dick affirms that the Tea Party is not a third political party. “These are folks who don’t care about politics and don’t like politics and don’t like politicians. They’re skeptical and cynical about all of them.”
Armey had a lot to say at the luncheon about Democrats like Pelosi, who he called “inept,” as well as Republicans, whom he also didn’t exactly shower with praise.
