In a tragic double-header of death, Yankees owner George Steinbrenner has died of a heart attack. He passed away this morning according to the Washington Post, after celebrating his 80th birthday on the 4th of July. Just two days ago, on Sunday morning, the first game of this deadly double-header was played with Bob Sheppard died at the age of 99. Sheppard was the Voice of Yankee Stadium from 1951 until 2007, when he retired.

How is it possible the Yankees could lose two such important people in such a short time? It defies belief. The Yankees do not normally lose like this!

Steinbrenner was the “Boss” of the Yankees for over 30 years, although as his health has been declining, his sons have been doing more and more of the daily work. He is credited with rebuilding the Yankee empire and the team responded by winning seven World Series since his ownership commenced in 1973.

Undoubtedly Bob Sheppard and George Steinbrenner are together somewhere, in some great baseball stadium where no one ever loses or strikes out or gets struck down. Rest in peace gentlemen.
