Arlington (CMR) - “Eagle Eye”, a thriller starring Shia LaBeouf and Michelle Monaghan topped the box office in its debut this weekend bringing in $29.2 million.”It’s a good ride, and an audience pleaser. You get to suspend disbelief and just go for it,” DreamWorks spokesman Chip Sullivan said about “Eagle Eye”.Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures’ romantic drama ‘Nights in Rodanthe” starring Richard Gere and Dianne Lane took the second spot with $13.6 million in its opening weekend.

Samuel L. Jackson’s “Lakeview Terrace” dropped from the top spot last week to this week’s number three position.

With a very disappointing start, Spike Lee’s WWII movie called “Miracle at St. Anna” debuted in ninth spot bringing in only $3.5 million.

Even with the big presidential debate on Friday which definitely pulled adult viewers away from the theatres the box office still managed to bring in some good numbers in comparison to the rest of September.

1. Eagle Eye    $29.2 M
2. Nights in Rodanthe    $13.6 M
3. Lakeview Terrace    $7.0 M
4. Fireproof    $6.5 M
5. Burn After Reading    $6.2 M
